Ikigai is a Japanese concept that refers to the sense of purpose or meaning in life. It is often translated as “the reason for being,” and is believed to be the source of happiness and fulfillment. The term ikigai is composed of two words: “iki,” which means “to live,” and “gai,” which means “value” or “benefit.” Together, these words suggest that ikigai is the value or purpose that gives life meaning and makes it worth living.

A Japanese concept meaning – the secret to a long and happy life.

According to the traditional Japanese concept of ikigai, everyone has their own unique ikigai, and finding it is the key to living a fulfilling and happy life. In Japan, ikigai is often referred to as “the secret to a long and happy life.”
The concept of ikigai has gained popularity in recent years, as more and more people seek to find meaning and purpose in their lives. It has been embraced by both individuals and organizations as a way to increase productivity, creativity, and well-being.
So, how do you find your ikigai?
One way to start is by considering the things that bring you joy and fulfillment. These could be activities, hobbies, or passions that you pursue in your free time. They could also be activities or tasks that you do on a daily basis, such as your job or caring for your family.
Another way to find your ikigai is to consider the things that you are naturally good at and that you enjoy doing. These are often referred to as your “talents” or “strengths.” By focusing on and developing these talents, you can find a sense of purpose and meaning in your life.
It can also be helpful to consider the things that the world needs and that you feel called to do. These could be things that you feel strongly about, such as environmental causes, social justice issues, or helping others. By aligning your passions and strengths with the things that the world needs, you can find a sense of purpose and meaning in your life.
It’s important to note that ikigai is not necessarily a single, specific thing. It can be a combination of things, and it may change and evolve over time. The key is to keep exploring and finding what brings you joy, fulfillment, and a sense of purpose.
One way to do this is to try new things and experiment with different activities and hobbies. This can help you discover new passions and strengths and can also help you find your ikigai.
It’s also important to be mindful of your values and priorities. What is most important to you in life? What do you want to achieve or accomplish? By aligning your actions and choices with your values and priorities, you can find a sense of purpose and meaning in your life.
Another way to find your ikigai is to seek out opportunities to learn and grow. This could be through formal education, such as taking a class or earning a degree, or through more informal means, such as reading books, attending workshops or seminars, or seeking out mentors or role models.
If you achieve Ikigai, you are in the right place in your life. If you are on progress toward Ikigai, you are on the right track. If you strive for balance, you are in a good place in life. If you are looking for direction or motivation, the Ikigai concept can help you focus your efforts and energy.
I believe that there is a reason to do what I do. Sometimes it may feel like there is no plan, but as long as there is a vision or a goal in general and activities align with a vision, the things I want to achieve will eventually happen – if I do not give up and keep moving forward. If they do not happen, perhaps I either need to adjust my goal or how I am attempting to achieve it.
Years ago, I learned about Ikigai, and my vision is to find my place in life, industry, career, and the world where I can thrive, grow, contribute, be valued, and be happy.
